Thanks to everyone for making P.L.A.C.E. (Professional Learning as Community Experience) 2009 a special time to explore…reflect…connect. What an amazing group!
Note: In Colour Groups, we will be debriefing our P.L.A.C.E. experiences on Thursday, Oct. 1st at 10:00 (during your regular class times – Section 10: EPS Section 20: SST Section 40: PE) Location: TBA. Visit the blog section “Important Dates” on the right hand side of main page.
In our final circle gathering, you each wrote down one word that reflected your experience at P.L.A.C.E. These words were compiled in a ‘wordle’ as a way to ‘visualize’ our thoughts as ‘one’. Words that appear larger represent those that were shared by many but all words are important messages to remind us of our thoughts and emotions as a community.

We will be creating our own original ‘digital story’ of our experiences at P.L.A.C.E. EVERYONE is encouraged to take your own camera (or we have a few that you can borrow) and submit some of your favourite shots to our Digital Story Group.
If you are interested in joining this “Digital Storytelling” group and helping Julie and Peta with the editing, creating, designing, making original music (musicians would be a huge bonus but anyone can create using Garageband). We will be using a Mac platform as the multimedia package is amazing and easy to learn.
We had originally thought we would have 2 volunteers per group but we will take all names that are interested and see what we can work out together. Please give your name to your EPS instructor.
Section 40: Aimee, Danielle D., Amanda, Kate, Alicia, Danelle
Section 20: Caitie W. and Stacey D.

Mary Chan, the principal of the Chinese Language School of Regina, is inviting students in Early Childhood and Elementary to volunteer at her school this year. Janice Huber, UofR Early Childhood Education professor has been working with Mary and the teachers to differentiate instruction as the class is quite diverse and large this year. The classes are held on Sunday afternoons at Balfour Collegiate, 1.30-4.00 pm.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Janice Huber at janice.huber@uregina.ca or 585-4551. Because the school breaks mid-December to mid- January, students can choose to participate for one or both terms and, as well, might be able to link this experience with some of their course experiences/assignments. This would be an excellent learning opportunity.

On Friday, September 11th, we were honoured to have Dr. Vianne Timmons, Uof R President and Vice-Chancellor, address our group on the topic, “How do we create, live in, and sustain inclusive community?” This essential question is our guiding theme for this exciting, pre-internship year. Vianne touched our hearts and minds by sharing her personal experiences as teacher and mother.
The ATTITUDE, INNOVATION, JOY and LOVE that Dr. Timmons demonstrated is inspirational to each one of us. Just as she asked us to always think about ‘what are the messages to the children?’ we are asking you to share some of the messages that you received as you listened to her powerful stories. Our University President may always be seen by others as the ‘University President’ (even in her housecoat at 6:30 a.m.) but she will always be our INSPIRATION, our HOPE for the future and we WILL hold onto our ideals very tightly! We promise, President Timmons! We promise, Vianne.

The story of who we take ourselves to be can never be concluded. The story of who we are can never fully be told, since at any future point the apparent certainties of the present can be re-visited and re-viewed. Because of the reflexive feature of knowing, any experience of oneself exists in a ‘time’ (Davies, 1993, p. 28).
Throughout your pre-internship year, you will be experiencing a different time and place in your professional journey, a ‘process of becoming’. As your instructors for these next two semesters, we are excited to be able to travel alongside of you for this important part of your journey as teacher. Welcome!
We will be using this blog as an online “place” to communicate important messages and dates, to post assigned readings/podcasts/links, and to also provide a public forum for you to post questions and responses. We remind you that this is a professional blog and is an open forum for anyone to read. Visit our world map to see how many visitors from around the world drop in to see what we are doing!
We will also be using our InTheField Wikispace throughout the year as our Collaborative Online Space. Our 2008-2009 students have many of their created resources on this site to share with each other but also with you. You will all be contributors to this wiki throughout the year.
NEW: Our Fall calendar is now posted and can be found on our Syllabus link.
