Dr. Joel Westheimer’s presentation “No Child Left Thinking: Democracy at Risk in Canadian Schools” is on as scheduled today at 3:30 in the Education Auditorium,. He’s arrived safely from Ottawa so those of you (Section 40) who were to attend this as part of your Social Studies class are still invited to attend. Due to the fact that all university classes have been cancelled today, you are not expected to attend but are most welcome to do so.

IF YOU CANNOT MAKE IT IN THIS EVENT WILL BE STREAMED LIVE -
Go to Ustream channel or if you have difficulties go to http://couros.ca and follow the link from that site.

Yes, it is true. University classes are cancelled today but the university is open. It was announced on the radio – I double checked online – here’s the website.
Still haven’t heard if Dr. Joel Westheimer’s presentation “No Child Left Thinking: Democracy at Risk in Canadian Schools” is on or not. Keep checking the blog for updates.

Write Introductory letter.

    This letter is intended to help your cooperating teacher know your strengths and talents. You will have a draft ready by Feb. 1st or 2nd bring to EPS class for peer editing and to share ideas & suggestions. Then you will do a good copy to hand in to your EPS instructors by Feb. 8th or 9th for double checking before attaching to your internship application.

    Here are a few guidelines for preparing your letter suggested by the Field Experience Office:

    ➢ Keep the letter positive and relatively brief (about one type-written page);
    ➢ Try to envision the impression your letter may give on the co-op;
    ➢ Avoid lengthy expositions of your philosophy of education and teaching
    (This is a separate document suitable for your teaching portfolio).

    Major points to cover:

    ➢ A brief personal background (where you are from etc.);
    ➢ Some information about activities you have been involved in;
    ➢ Skills that you have acquired that will be an asset to teaching;
    ➢ Evidence of a desire to be in the classroom as a pre-intern;

        Welcome Back!

        Welcome back Section 10, 20 and 40. We know that everyone is looking forward to your school visits in January and February to reconnect with your students AND of course that wonderful 3-week block in March. We look forward to walking alongside each one of you as you continue your ‘process of becoming’ a teacher. Take time to reflect on ‘who your learners are’ and what do you believe about the ‘commonplaces’. Work hard to build on your curriculum & instruction knowledge through all of your classes and take advantage of the many ‘invitations to learning’ that your instructors have carefully mapped out. Your unit or ‘learning’ plan will come together as you gather and create the many interconnected pieces. With hard work, dedication and passion for making a difference for your learners, you will have an amazing semester. Revisit ‘Playground Wisdom’ YouTube for inspiration and to remind yourselves of the special ‘little people’ that you are planning engaging and meaningful learning experiences for.

        Julie, Carol & Pam
